VIDEO: Slumdog NFL: Elite Football League of India
Share
No there isn't any NFL in the country of India, but there is football. And no it doesn't have the same ending as the movie reference of Slumdog Millionaire. But they do have something in common. They both include young teen boys who aspire to be rich.
When I got hired as coach and trainer with the EFLI, I had no idea what to expect, but all I know is that I had to get these boys game ready in less than 6 months. (And, umm...yeah that's me up there.)
Although they had never played the sport before, they their interest grew with hopes of making millions of dollars like REAL NFL players. Wouldn't you want to be a millionaire too?
Keep in mind that the guys in India had never seen a football, let alone know what American football was. At first it seem like an impossible feat, but the more and more we practiced. And the more we coached. The better they got. And by the time those 6 months were over, they were ready to play.
Here are some highlights of 1 of the teams I coached out in India. Although the film looks like it was filmed in the 70's, with it's vintage filter look; you just gotta' admit--its not quite that bad after all.
And try not to laugh at the fact that it is impossible for the guy in this blog's cover photo, to be 6'2 /1'88 and 120 lbs /58 kg.
And who is Michael Ober??
